I have an extensive teaching background, with experience teaching in introductory composition, professional writing, graduate teacher training, learning communities, linguistics, summer high school gifted programs, and teacher education programs. In addition, my two years working on the Purdue OWL & curriculum development at SUNY Stony Brook gave me extensive experience in developing instructional materials and curriculum. This varied background has allowed me to learn to quickly adapt to new teaching situations and challenges. Additionally, I have recieved extensive formal education and training in teh teaching of writing, including undergraduate coursework in English education and four semsters
ENGL 106-L: Learning Community for First Year Composition. I taught in the Computer Graphics Technology learning community during Fall 2006, which focused heavily on Visual Rhetoric and professional writing.
ENGL 108: Accelerated First-Year Composition. This course focused on students’ explorations of writing in their majors/chosen professions with a rhetorical emphasis.
ENGL 106: First-Year Composition – Taught in the “Rhetorical situations / Real Texts” syllabus approach with an emphasis on rhetorical skills and audience awareness.
WRT101: Introductory Writing Workshop – Taught at SUNY Stony Brook.
ENGL 515 – Mentor Group for New Teachers. I served as a technology mentor to eight sections of teachers new to teaching in the FYC program at Purdue for two semesters.
LIN 344: Language Acquisition and Literacy Development and Language Acquisition. A writing across the curriculum focused course teaching pre-service teachers about language acquisition, literacy development, and using writing and communication teaching in content-area courses.
ENGL 419 – Multimedia Writing. Duties include course preparation, curriculum design, teaching, and assessment. The focus of this course is examining multimedia contexts of writing (audio/podcasting, video, web, and multi-genre) through a solid foundation in rhetorical principles and user-centered design.
ENGL 420 – Business Writing: The focus of the course was business & professional communication through a rhetorical and user-centered approach.
Instructor in Writing, C/Step Program. C/Step was a summer program at SUNY Stony Brook for minority and low-income high school students. This course was taught with a PW/technical writing focus/rhetorical focus.
